In honor of Women’s Day, we sat down with one of our favorite inspiring fitness trainers to bring you a perspective to fitness from someone that spends all day motivating and driving other women to push themselves. Esther Taub is a personal trainer that recently launched an online fitness program for women that includes 4 weeks of video workout instruction, a 28 day meal plan and even 30 healthy recipes! It’s obvious to us that Esther has put her heart and soul into this training program and made it accessible to women (or men) anywhere. Make sure to get more information on her program EMPOWER.
Let’s jump in…
Esther, how did you get started with personal fitness?
It’s actually a funny story, my entire life I have always been extremely energetic but when I was 18 I heard about a marathon in Jerusalem and decided I wanted to participate. I signed myself up for the full marathon and was quickly advised by some friends that running a marathon takes training and preparation and it would be inadvisable to just show up and run 42 kilometers. I took their advice and compromised by running a half. That half marathon was one of the more difficult things I had completed but as I crossed the finish line I made a mental note in BOLD that I would start training and preparing for the full marathon the following year and I can happily share that I stuck to it and completed a marathon one year later.
After completing my national service I signed up to what I thought was a fitness class but actually turned out to be a personal trainer course at Wingate Institute. I figured I would give it a try and it turned into the beginning of a career that has continued to flourish, grow and bring me so much joy.
How long have you been a personal trainer?
I have been a personal trainer for seven, almost eight years. I remember when I landed my first private client six years ago and all I could think was how great it would be to have even two clients a week but now I often have up to forty sessions a week and it’s really a dream come true.
What is your favorite thing about being a personal trainer?
My favorite thing about being a personal trainer is getting to be a part of helping people change their lives for the better. Whatever their reasons may be; physical, mental or emotional, there are so many motivators for why people choose to start exercising. Being able to be a part of each person’s journey to get from point A to point B is an incredible experience and I just love being part of that process. I am also a huge fan of helping people become the happiest version of themselves. At the end of every session, seeing my clients feeling happiness and pride over what they have just accomplished is an absolutely fulfilling feeling.
What do you wear when you work out or when you are working with clients?
The most important thing for me is comfort. I can’t have too many layers or too many textures on my clothing for my own personal workouts but I also like to look stylish because I do wear activewear almost everyday of the week and its important for me to feel good in what I wear.
Why did you create a 4-week fitness course online?
I created the EMPOWER program because there were so many people contacting me from referrals that wanted to work with me. By creating this program, I built a way for anyone to gain access to a training program that caters to multiple ability levels and also feels like having a private personal trainer in your home. My program was designed to offer a well rounded personal training experience that can be accomplished anytime and anywhere. This program can help anyone worldwide finally reach the fitness results that they have always been dreaming of.
Why did you include meal planning?
It comes down to something I always tell my clients “You can’t out train a bad diet“. I have had clients that would put so much into their sessions and workouts but then they would be having ice cream for dinner! It’s important to pair your hard work in the fitness world with healthy dietarypractices, which means the right amount of healthy and the right amount of treats.
How do you challenge yourself and keep fitness exciting?
I put a lot of effort into making sure I don’t do the same exercise routine too often or too many times. I do repeat some workouts but I pride myself on the fact that each of my sessions are unique and exciting. I often change the weights or spice it up with different exercises that my clients have never seen before. This way they won’t get bored of working out and then eventually quit. Another great technique is making new and great playlists that keep me and my clients excited.
What is your biggest accomplishment in your fitness journey?
That’s a good one, and a tough one! My main accomplishment is the positive changes I’ve helped make in the lives of every single one of my clients. There’s nothing better than knowing you’ve truly changed someone’s life for the better. My next biggest success is creating and releasing this online fitness program, EMPOWER. Creating a professional workout program has been a dream of mine since I became a personal trainer. I spent four months literally pouring my heart out into this project. Between filming, interviewing my trainers, perfecting the meal plan, and finalizing each and every workout, I didn’t have time for much else!. Every single detail had to be perfect and attainable for every type of person. Now that I have released the program and so many people are purchasing it, loving it, and changing their lives because of it, I’m seeing how much of a success and accomplishment all that hard work was.
Do you pay attention to the types of fabrics your clothing is made of?
Yes! I 100% pay attention to the fabrics my clothing is made of. I often find myself in the store seeing items that are so cute but when I buy them without thinking about what they are made of, I rarely end up wearing them because they just aren’t comfortable. I pay a lot of attention to the fabrics the clothing is made of because it is so important that my clothing absorbs moisture and sweat. I spend most days between the gym and training sessions, and I need to know I can go through my daily routine without feeling sticky or gross. I also find that fitted clothing is better for my workouts and allows me the comfort that I am looking for during my workouts.
Why do you choose to dress modestly when you exercise or train clients?
I believe that every person has their own interpretation of what modesty looks like and there is no black and white definition. Surely there are women that wear more or less clothing if you choose to compare yourself to everyone else, but modesty is a personal value and I do my best to truly live my own version of a modest lifestyle. I also feel more professional when I believe I’m dressed modestly..
Why did you choose to call your fitness program EMPOWER?
The main reason comes from a hashtag I have been using for a long time, #empoweryourself, which embodies so much of what fitness means to me. There are so many benefits of fitness and having an exercise routine, but the reason that stands out the most to me is how it gives women a feeling of power and strength, both physical and mental. The concept really embodies what I want people to get from the four week program, I want them to feel empowered and to take that into everything they do.
Wow, those concepts, giving a woman a feeling of power and strength really resonates with us. In fact, they were the driving forces behind Hydrochic and why we created this brand. As you know, we are a made by women, for women clothing company; and we really focus on using our own experiences to create active wear and swimwear that solves all the challenges that real women find in more mainstream brands. When you work with private clients, do you only train women or men as well?
Generally when I train one on one sessions, I only train women. I have actually hired a male trainer for all the men that contact Esther Taub Fitness.. When I train clients in their home I need to feel comfortable showing them different exercises and asking them to mimic the movements I make with my body. I have tried to train men but I find that since women and men’s bodies were created so differently, it is far more effective to have a women show another women how to utilize a different center of gravity or focus on more female specific problem areas. When I work with a client, I know this may sound strange, but I memorize their body! I work hard to cater their training schedule specifically to their body. For me, doing that for a woman is much more familiar and attainable.
Esther we cannot begin to share how inspiring you are to us. As a woman that followed her dream and took it from concept to fruition, we really relate to you and are so happy to see you succeeding.
