Don’t forget that active kids need good fuel to give them energy to keep going, and so do moms. Summertime is the perfect time to start taking baby steps toward better nutrition. While the kids are home, you can teach them how to make healthy summer treats like peanut butter and apples, smoothies, or veggie sticks with homemade Ranch Dressing.
Weaning kids off of sugary snacks and fast food is a great place to start if you are looking to make some gradual changes. Real food offers real nutrition. Even when following a healthy and balanced diet, using a real food nutritional supplement can be a good idea to ensure your body is getting all the vitamins and nutrients it needs to fuel an active summer lifestyle.
Keep in mind that what you model as a parent will be more influential than what you say. Kids will catch the double standard if you are drinking a lot of soda, but are not letting them have any. Make it easier for everyone in that family by only keeping foods in the house that you want your kids to eat.
Healthy summer snacks:
- – Fresh fruits and veggies with a healthy, homemade dressing or dip
- – Whole grain bread
- – Cheese and whole grain crackers
- – Herbal iced tea sweetened with honey or Stevia
- – Yogurt and fruit
- – All juice popsicles
- – Fruit smoothies with yogurt or milk
- – Popcorn
Have a great summer!
I hope that this summer finds you healthy, happy, and fit. Summertime is special and alive. Let’s make the most of it by indulging in healthy summer snacks and getting out and having loads of fun with our kids.
