Everywhere you go, you see them. Women on the beach – in sleeves. Women riding bikes – in sleeves. Women relaxing in the sun – in sleeves. This summer, more and more women are finding that fashion forward at the beach or the pool means wearing stylish sun protective garments that cover their shoulders and arms. Luckily, there are more and more fashionable ways to protect ourselves from the sun’s rays when wearing long sleeve swimsuits no matter the sport.
The rash guard began life in Australia as strictly surfer wear – to protect the torso from scrapes when sliding on and off a surf board. Then, people realized that they also protect your upper body from sunburn, and the swim shirt was born. Traditionally, a rash guard is tight, more like a wetsuit, only less hot. A swim shirt is looser and its first purpose is to protect the wearer from sunburn. Rash guards are typically produced by sport and swim wear companies. Swim shirts are sold by regular clothing stores along with other swim wear.
Swim shirts have seen a huge rise in popularity over recent years. One consumer explains, “Rash guards are always plastered with logos of sportswear companies, but my swim shirt comes in more fashionable colors. I can wear it without feeling like a sporting maniac”.
Most swim shirts also have a built in UVF filter, often equivalent to factor 50 sunblock. This is a huge incentive to fair skinned people, and to those who spend lots of time in the water where sunblock rinses off. At HydroChic, all our clothing has built in UPF 50+ sun protection, considered the ultimate in UV sun protection.
Mothers, especially, are rushing to buy swim shirts for themselves and their children. One busy mom of five explains, “It is impossible to get my kids to stand still for long enough to apply sunscreen. Putting on a shirt only takes a second, and I don’t have to fuss about reapplying on a sandy beach. It’s easier for me too. I put on a shirt and don’t need to worry about burning.”
HydroChic is at the forefront of this new trend. With swim shirts in classic solids and new prints – Purple Rain print and modern Tribal print, from missy to plus sized – this summer – we have you covered!
With sleeves being all the rage, at HydroChic we offer long sleeve and other lengths: cap, elbow, three quarters and even a long sleeved jacket, which is easy to take on and off in cooler conditions. And it’s not only about your arms – we offer many lengths for bottoms too!
While our swim shirts are carefully crafted to flatter your body, they are also immensely practical with internal hidden pockets for keys or money. Best of all, each regular price rash guard or swim shirt comes with a swim and sports bra. With a choice of lightly padded or racer back, you can choose what works for you.
So, this summer, we really have an ace up our sleeve!
