Of the many ways that COVID-19 has changed life, one of the most apparent is how we socialize. Now that some states are beginning to lift quarantine restrictions, more people are beginning to venture out as the weather is allowing for more ways to socialize and stay active.
Keep in mind that much of the risk may be determined by the number of cases in your specific geographical area. In the meantime you can remember these 3 golden rules:
- Always choose outdoors, over indoors
- Always choose masking over not masking
- Always choose more space for fewer people over a smaller space
Now to break down some practical ideas for spending time with family and friends this summer:

Low Risk
- Spending the day at a popular beach or pool
- Renting a vacation home with your family
- Going camping
- Exercising outdoors
- Playing tennis or golf with a friend
- Participating in a water aerobics class
Low to Medium Risk
- A BYOB backyard gathering with one other household
- Using a public restroom
- Staying at a hotel
- Visiting a Farmer’s Market (keeping in mind physical distancing as much as possible)
Medium to High Risk:
- An outdoor celebration such as a wedding with more than 10 guests
- Getting a haircut
- Eating indoors at a restaurant
- Visiting an amusement park or local fair
- Participating in a basketball game (and other contact sports)

High Risk
- Going to a show or musical performance indoors
- Attending a religious service/conference indoors
- Traveling in an airplane
- Going on a cruise
Activity where the risk varies
- Going shopping at a mall: risk varies*
- Going to movie theatres and indoor sporting events
