Tips & An Acronym Remind Kids to Cover Up- Here’s How
Until now, during these Corona times, we have been dealing with how to keep ourselves and our families safe by staying at home.
However, now that we and our kids are starting to go out more; for a walk, to the park or just to play in the backyard it is time for each of us to get back into our sun protection routines.
Here are some of the basics:
Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen while your kids are still in the house, about 15 to 30 minutes before they go out.
Choose a sunscreen that contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide because the compounds are less irritating than others and do not get absorbed into the skin.
Sunscreen sticks are best for the face because they are less likely to drip or get in the eyes which can burn.
Hats: Make sure that your kids are wearing hats with brims. As your kids get older, let them go shopping to choose the hat that will be their companion throughout the summer so that they will want to wear it.
Sunglasses: Choose sunglasses that filter both UVB and UVA rays. and makes sure that they are wearing them whenever they go outside.
Clothing: The basic white t-shirt does not provide enough sun protection. When going swimming, there are lots of rash guards made for children that offer maximum sun protection. We at www.hydrochic.com offer sun protective modest swimwear for girls. When wearing clothing, the white t-shirt does not offer enough sun protection. Look for closely woven dark colored tops and clothing.
We are celebrating the easing of the restrictions in many parts of the country but still need to be vigilant with masks, washing hands and distancing. Now that it is warm, we need to ramp up our sun protection too.
May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month!
